Focus On: The Polyjesters

The Polyjesters are a Canadian quartet formed by brothers Jason (upright bass) and Sheldon (ukulele) Valleau. The pair were born in remote Grand Prairie, Alberta and now live in Carstairs near Calgery, but it was during a sojourn in Europe that they began performing in earnest, even if more of their "concerts" were played on street corners with a hat for a box office. Growing up on the sounds of Nat "King" Cole and artists of his era, the brothers Valleau developed a musical style that was inspired by swing and '40s jazz. With musical parents (their dad is a music teacher), they learned a variety of instruments and, living in nearly the middle of nowhere, they became resourceful. The brothers own and operate a recording studio in Carstairs, host annually the Mountain View Music Festival, produce, press and distribute their own CDs. Their first collection is "Ka-Chunk!" and, after three long years, a new CD is expected out in early 2008.

Jason and Sheldon are joined on tour by Aaron Young (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) on guitar and Drew Jurecka (Toronto, Ontario) on fiddle.
