One of the leaders in the British roots music movement, Pete Morton crafts songs that are accessible and deeply felt.
Born in Nottingham, England, Morton started out as a street busker, a career that requires talent, personality and a
quick mind to succeed. Although he drew his first inspirations from the powerful Punk movement and songwriters like
Elvis Costello, a chance encounter with protest folk pushed him into a path that was influenced more by artists like Dylan,
Buffy Ste. Marie and traditional English folk. With an acoustic guitar in his hands, his musical life began again.
Morton continues to push the limits of contemporary story songs and protest folk, along with “collecting” heritage music to preserve
it for future generations, never shying away from the true emotions that make music powerful and an effective agent for social change.
His newest CD, Flying an Unknown Flag includes a love song for Emily Dickenson and a song about the joys of waiting in
line at the Post Office.
